There Is A Lot To Love About Spring Cycling

Spring is in the air and along with it are the thousands of men and women, girls and boys who have waited through the long, cold winter to get back on their bikes. They are ready to say good-by to those long months of too much television viewing and too little exercising. No doubt extra pounds have found their way to many waistlines and muscles are significantly much less defined than they were at the end of last fall after a nice long season of regular workouts. Now is the time to change all of that. It’s time to turn off the remote, get off the couch and regroup. The cumbersome boots and heavy winter coats can now be stored and out can come the warm weather t-shirts, cycling shorts and fitted cycling jerseys. Hallelujah! This season has not arrived one minute too soon. A good many of us must feel exactly the same way because the streets are becoming crowed with cycling enthusiasts traveling in pairs, in groups and solo. The bright colors of their jerseys are a most welcome sight and compliment the emerging colors of the passing landscapes on every side.

While it is true that there are still exercises to do and sports to be involved with during the cold months of the year, it is the renewed passion for cycling that fuels the enthusiasm of many athletes. Clipping their shoes into the pedals they head out for a long morning ride where they can enjoy the brilliant rays of the early sun and feel the heat against their faces. The morning air is still fairly cool and feels invigorating against the skin energizing the muscles to work harder, faster. Somehow, it looks so much easier and more pleasant to get one’s exercise during the warmer months than it does when the snow is piled up on the sidewalks and the air bites hard into the skin. Gliding along the roadway under low leafy branches is ever so much nicer than grinding it out on the treadmill at the local gym with all the other sweaty bodies.

Feeling at one with nature and life is a great way to spend one’s workout time and a pretty great way to start out the day. Interestingly there seems to be an instant camaraderie with other cyclists who you encounter who are enjoying nature in the same fulfilling way. There is a long list of things to love about Springtime but getting on your bike and heading out for an exhilarating and thoroughly enjoyable ride is certainly one of them.

Bike Touring – How to Plan a Route

Determining where to travel on your amazing bicycle touring adventure and planning the journey is an enjoyable piece of the experience. Maybe there’s a part of the country or world that you’ve always been to explore, and completing it on a bike might just be a unique pleasure.

But … how do you appreciate the roads are like? … Is the region safe? … What about auto traffic? …

There are a couple reputable starting points for route planning.

The adventure Cycling Association puts out terrific maps citing approximately 41,000 miles of cycling routes which have been tested and refined during the past four decades. All contain outlining concern what things to be aware of and ways to plan. Additionally promoted tours, a Cyclist’s Yellow pages, and a print magazine that invariably seems to have terrific valuable articles.

Google Maps can be one additional fine reference. Simply mouse click on any area around the world and you can now check out the topography, together with elevations included, and even a satellite view, or the straight up map view. This amazing tool even makes it possible for a person to take a look at an image from virtually any spot along the length of many roads, by merely dragging an icon, locating it along the highlighted road and dropping it. The next tip is to try using routes outlined by organizations which are experts in leading supported trips. These kinds of routes are normally researched intensively and an individual might discover more details on camping or alternative routes to lodge, the best places to dine, topography, vehicle traffic, and so forth.

7 Reasons to Take Breaks at Work

My job in Chicago began with three months of probation.

I was petrified to leave my desk.

The company provided us with two 15-minute breaks and a half hour
for lunch, but I was not having any of it. I researched, written and edited at
full throttle, without interruption, eager to prove my capacity to produce.

After six weeks, my supervisor said my probation period was done, in
half the normal time. I was in!

But my body was not happy. I had developed severe eyestrain. I had
constant headaches, and the muscles in my neck and upper back were
perpetually clenched. My stomach hurt from all the stress.

My heart was not happy either, since I had never really spoken to any
of my colleges for any length of time. The whole social dimension of
the job was missing.

But I had been too afraid to take care of myself until I felt that my job was
secure.

Sound familiar? Fear is just one of the factors chain us to our desks.
Some of us have absorbed an ethnic of overwork. Or, we feel pressure to
work efficiently so we can get home to our families.

But experts say taking breaks can improve health and AND make us
more effective on the job. Here are seven reasons to get up, stretch and
walk during working hours:

1. YOUR BODY WILL THANK YOU.

The human body was not designed for sitting at a desk for hours on end.
Eyes, backs, necks, shoulders and wrists benefit when we get up and
move.

2. YOU’LL OPEN THE WAY FOR CREATIVITY.

Very, very few good ideas have ever come to me while I’m at my desk,
pushing myself to finish a project. Many ideas have come during walks
with my dogs, or while doing light housework. Other people get flashes
of inspiration while showering.

Something about physical activity looks to free the mind to create.

3. YOU’LL FIND OUT WHAT’S GOING ON AROUND YOU.

It’s amazing what you can learn about your workplace while chatting
with bowls over coffee.

4. YOU’LL WORK MORE EFFECTIVELY.

that breaks improve productivity. Short intervals for relaxation allow us to
sustain high levels of effort more of the time.

prolonged time on task can squeeze the joy out work.
